The CLEA 2017 conference took place at the Victoria University City Convention Centre in Melbourne, Australia on Wednesday 22 and Thursday 23 March 2017. CLEA have traditionally held their conference in the same city or the same region as the Commonwealth Law Conference as both associations jointly run the Commonwealth Moot competition.

Delegates arranged visa applications and travel plans in advance. Those who had been accepted to present papers were given an option of requesting a letter of invitation from CLEA in order to assist with visa applications.
